Description

Join local artist Anne Erlewine at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens this Winter for a six-week botanical drawing and painting class. Learn how to draw plants and flowers by practicing several methods that train your hand and eye to record what you see on paper. Once we have established a secure level of skill, we will each put our practice together to create one composition that we will finalize and paint. This class includes a complementary free draw seventh class mid-way through the course where students are encouraged to bring a friend to share in an overview of the drawing skills we practice in the first three weeks of class. This class will strike a balance between rigorous practice and enjoyment of the process.

Anne Erlewine works from her studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Anne’s paternal grandmother was a fine artist who encouraged Anne to develop her skills early on. Anne received a running scholarship at the University of Michigan where she studied art and writing. Anne also studied intensive watercolor and figure drawing at Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado during the Beat Generation reunion.

Course materials will be provided for those who do not wish to purchase supplies. A source list will also be provided for those who would like to purchase their own supplies. There will be suggested homework between classes that will help students progress and give extra time for those that work at a slower pace, though the objective is designed to be accomplished in class should that be all the time one has to give to this process. A course syllabus will be provided upon registration.
